Located in a romantic old Entry, running between Ann Street and High Street, The Morning Star is easily identified by the superb Victorian sign hanging from a grandly exuberant iron bracket jutting out from the corner of the bar.
The building is historically listed and can trace its history back to 1810, when it was mentioned in The Belfast Newsletter as being one of the terminals for the Belfast to Dublin Mail Coach.
The Morning Star offer food all day, from light snacks to lunch, dinner, set meals, special events and Gourmet Night, the last Saturday of every month. A Self Serve Buffet providing an excellent choice of both hot and cold meals is available in the Downstairs Bar for £4.50. Upstairs or downstairs the food is top quality with lively service and a great, buzzing atmosphere. The standard menu is wide-ranging but the daily specials list must be consulted.
The Morning Star boasts probably the most eclectic pub menu in Ireland. Kangaroo and crocodile steaks as well as choice cuts of emu, ostrich and bison have featured among the dishes on offer courtesy of one of the present owners Corrine McAlister who attributes her off-beat taste buds to the fact that she is from Australia.
