Theatres Concert Halls & Arenas

Ulster HallIn Belfast you will find ground-breaking and innovative drama alongside the finest classics. The city has a thriving theatre community that continues to challenge, provoke and entertain. With over 15 full time theatre companies working in all areas of the performing arts there are excellent home grown productions in various stages of work at any one time. The foremost venue for classic theatre is the Grand Opera House on Great Victoria Street, a classic Matcham designed Victorian masterpiece which first opened in 1895.

Not all theatre attunes itself to large venues. The Black Box in the Cathedral Quarter is such a venue providing a colourful fringe element; a little further out but well worth a visit is the 110 seater Cultúrlann Mac Adam, celebrating Irish art and culture within all aspects of the performing arts.

The Lyric Theatre on Stranmillis Road is currently being restored and is under the patronage of Liam Neeson who cut his teeth in the old theatre; back in the centre of the city is the Ulster Hall, just opened after a multi-million pound restoration. Beside the Lagan is the magnificent Waterfront Hall, a venue worth of any major international production with seating for up to 2235, highly praised acoustics and a warm welcoming atmosphere. Concerts drawing larger audiences hold sway in the Odyssey Arena, a venue capable of seating up to ten thousand adoring fans.
