Port of BelfastBelfast Harbour Commissioner's Office
Corporation Square
Belfast BT1 3AL

Belfast Harbour Office, the offices of the Harbour Commission shows the importance of the port of Belfast in the 19th Century.

The first section of the building was opened in 1854 and a subsequent extension designed by William Henry Lynn in the style of an Italian palazzo was completed in 1895.

The interior of the building is perhaps even more impressive than the exterior and is well worth a visit.  Of particular interest, on entering the building, are the marble mosaic floors in the ground floor reception area and in the first floor lobby. Also noteworthy are the impressive stained glass windows depicting industry, commerce and enterprise, together with the coats of arms of the many ports and cities with which Belfast traded in the past.

Belfast Harbour Commissioner’s Office is open to the public as part of the Tall Ships event.

There is a Blue Badge Guide on hand to provide information on this notable and historic building and self guided tours are available.

Opening times:

Saturday 12 noon – 5pm

Belfast Tall Ships Sail out in Style

Belfast and Northern Ireland’s biggest ever event comes to its penultimate and most dramatic end as the magnificent Parade of Sail dissipates at 12 noon on Sunday 16th August.

Over 40+ ships from the Tall Ships fleet will be mustard into position that will allow viewing from both sides of Belfast Lough.  The organisers of Belfast Maritime Festival expect hundreds of thousands to say farewell to the 1,000 crew as they head to a variety of ports across Europe

Those wishing to view this spectacular site can choose from a variety of locations from both sides of the Lough.  As well as coming down to the main event site which will be opened from 10am to 4pm.

The fleet will begin to depart from the Port of Belfast from approximately 12.30 and it is estimated to take 1½ hours for the ships to leave.  The impressive vessels should experience a good westerly breeze and are expected to pass Bangor at around 2pm.

Due to expected numbers police and road service advise those travelling to view at key vantage points to give themselves plenty of time.

Travellers are advised to use Translink and NI Railway Services and to check the Translink website and DOE travel website for further details. http://www.translink.co.uk/

Car users

Special traffic management arrangements will be put in place along key coastal routes.  Car users should expect delays along both sides of Belfast Lough and are asked to leave plenty of time for their journey.  Car drivers are asked to follow traffic directions, be considerate where they park and follow the rules of the road.
