Belfast Tall Ships 2009 ran an open competition throughout Northern Ireland to give people the opportunity to be part of the Tall Ships 2009 Trans Atlantic Challenge sailing from Halifax to Belfast.

25 people were selected to be crew trainees for this final leg of the race after an intensive series of assessment centres. While 20 other people will also avail of the sail training opportunity leaving from UK ports arriving in Belfast to coincide with the Tall Ships.

The Belfast Tall Ships 2009 trainee crew have left from Halifax, Canada and are making their 2350 nautical miles adventure across the Atlantic before they reach their destination – Belfast marking the beginning of the Belfast Maritime Festival.
