Beyond Belfast
Beyond Belfast lies a land of myth and legend that was old
before Adam; spectacular mountain and costal scenery, great castles
and country houses to compare with anything on earth. And all of
this within an hour’s drive from Belfast.
County Antrim’s Causeway Coastal Route runs
north from Larne, and is the gateway to the Nine Glens of Antrim
with Glenariff Forest Park at its heart. On the northern coast
you’ll find the Giant’s Causeway, a striking basalt rock formation,
the only world heritage site in Northern Ireland. Don’t miss the
world famous Bushmills Distillery and the Carrick-a-Rede rope
bridge.
County Armagh, also known as the Orchard
County, is the smallest of the six counties and home to Ireland’s
oldest city. The county has immense historical importance as the
legendary seat of the Celtic Kings of Ulster that later became the
seat of St Patrick. Armagh has a wide range of fascinating visitor
attractions including Armagh Gaol, Armagh Planetarium and Navan
Fort, the royal seat of the Kings of Ulster.
County Down is home to the beautiful Mountains
of Mourne, with Slieve Donard the highest peak rising to a height
of 848 metres. To the east of the city, the Ards Peninsula forms a
barrier between the sea and an almost land locked Strangford Lough.
With a history spanning 7000 years, County Down has many important
archaeological sites and ancient monuments and is known the world
over as burial place of St Patrick.
